African Travel and Tourism Association calls for peace ahead of December 7 elections

The President of Women in Tourism, Ambassador Nancy Quartey Sam has urged particularly politicians to influence their supporters towards sustained national peace and progress as the country prepares for general elections next week.

She said the pursuance of peace is cardinal especially as the country prepares to go to the polls to elect political leaders to run affairs of the state.

Hence the need for politicians to be circumspect in their utterances ahead of next week general elections to avoid any situation that   could undermine Ghana’s enviable democratic dispensation among the comity of nations.

Ambassador Nancy Quartey Sam made the appealed at Peace Symposium organized by African Travel and Tourism in Kumasi.

The Peace Symposium which was organized by African Travel and Tourism Association, ATTA-Ghana was under the theme: ‘Sustaining Tourism Through Peaceful Elections’ brought together Queen Mothers Association of Ghana, NCCE, Peace Council, Security agencies, media, youth groups and Peace Ambassadors.

Tourism is the driving force of any developing economy and travel and tour agencies are one of the many links in the chains that make the tourism industry strong.

In order to boost Ghana’s efforts at building the tourism sector, African Travel and Tourism Association has resolved to do their bit to preserve national peace before, during and after this year’s General Elections.

According to the Association, it would not stand aloof in this regard, as it considers as a sacred duty, advocacy for the sustenance of national peace and stability.

Addressing the gathering, the Chairman of ATTA-Ghana and the former Ashanti Regional Chairman of Ghana Tourism Federation, Ahmed Naaman said despite the challenges the industry has suffered as a result of Covid-19, the industry would bounced back next year if there is peace in the country and therefore urged politicians to ensure peace prevail ahead of this year’s elections.

The President of Tour Operators Union, Madam Alisa Osei-Asamoah said peace is priceless and constitutes the very basis of human safety and security.

She noted that when peace is compromised, it is the poor, the vulnerable and the marginalized in society who bear the brunt.

The President of the African Travel and Tourism Association, Emmanuel Boateng highlighted enormous benefits of the tourism industry to the growth of the country and advised  various key stakeholders to up their games to ensure peaceful polls.

The President of Women in Tourism, Ambassador Nancy Quartey Sam admonished Ghanaians to desist from act that could undermine the national peace.

She said the peace is an essential ingredient Ghana needs to preserve and therefore advised the youth to endeavor to protect the country’s fragile democracy.
