Former Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan Kyerematen has indicated he will address the nation in the ensuing days.
This address is likely to answer some lingering questions about his resignation recently with some divided over the early or otherwise of his action, given his known political ambitions.
In a message on his Facebook, Mr Kyerematen expressed gratitude to President Akufo-Addo for the opportunity to serve in his administration.
” I would like to thank H.E the President for the opportunity to serve and for graciously accepting my resignation as Cabinet Minister responsible for Trade and Industry, effective 16th January, 2023″.
He thanked Ghanaians, particularly his party rank and file, the NPP for their trust in him”.
” l sincerely appreciate the support from my family, colleagues, my party the NPP, the international community, and the general public during my tenure as a Minister”.
“I will be addressing the Ghanaian people in the next few days. God bless you!”, he concluded.
Alan resigns
The Minister of Trade and Industry, Alan John Kwadwo Kyerematen reportedly resigned from his position, as news broke on Friday, January 6, 2023.
According to Jubilee House sources, Mr. Kyerematen popularly known as ‘Alan Cash’ tendered his resignation letter to the President, Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo on Thursday, January 5, 2022.
Allan cash made his first leadership attempt in the New Patriotic Party (NPP) in 2007 and his second in 2010 earned him a first runner-up position to Nana Akufo-Addo in the primaries.
Political Analysts perceive Mr. Kyerematen’s decision to be influenced by the intention to focus on his political career for election in 2024.
Mr Kyerematen has gone through the ranks as far as politics is concerned. He started serving as Minister of Trade and Industry in President Akufo-Addo’s government in 2017 having served in a similar position in President Kufuor’s government from 2005 to 2007 before he similarly stepped down alongside all other aspirants who were serving as ministers and wanted to lead the NPP.
One notable achievement chalked up, among others under his leadership as Minister of Trade and Industry, is the production of locally made vehicles by auto giants such as Suzuki, VW, Nissan and Sino Trucks under the Automotive Development Policy.
He was also pivotal in the government’s One-District-One-Factory agenda.
The NPP is however yet to fix a date for the Presidential primaries.
President Akufo-Addo accepts
Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo has accepted the resignation of Alan Kyerematen as Minister of Trade and Industry. This was after Mr Kyerematen personally informed the President of his decision to resign from his post to concentrate on his political ambition. A statement signed by the Director of communications at the Jubilee House, Eugene Arhin noted that the President thanked Mr Kyerematen for his services to the government and country and wished him well.
