All set for referendum on new regions

The Electoral Commission (EC), says everything is set for the referendum on the creation of six new regions on the 27th of this month.

Director of Communications of the Commission, Eric Dzakpasu, said rules which govern general election also apply to the Referendum.

He however said the requirement is that the turn out must be at least 50 percent of registered voters.

Background

The Justice Brobbey Commission was set up to look into the requests for the creation of new regions and has presented its report to the government.

The 19-member Commission, after holding nationwide consultations, urged the government to create the administrative regions to be known as the Oti, Ahafo, Brong East, Western North, North East, and Savannah regions.
