The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) is stepping up inspection and prosecution of new and existing buildings to ensure they meet regulation standards.
Speaking on GBC’s ‘Talking Point’, the Director of Works at the A.M.A, Dr. Stephen Nketia said the assembly will revoke licenses of building contractors and engineers who do not operate within the laws of the new Building Code to be passed into law.
He said citizens whose buildings are found to be below specified standards will be penalised.
The Executive Director of the Ghana Standards Authority, Prof. Alex Dodoo said the new Building Code is a game changer.
He said it will form the basis for all public building procurements.
This will ensure that building materials for public buildings, especially, are tested and meet quality standards.
