President John Dramani Mahama has appointed two senior ministers to temporarily take over the roles of their colleagues who died in a helicopter crash on Wednesday, August 6.
The Minister for Finance, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, has been asked to also serve as Acting Minister for Defence. The Minister for Lands and Natural Resources, Emmanuel Kofi Armah Buah, will now act as the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology.
This follows the tragic death of Dr. Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Dr. Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, who died in a helicopter crash on their way to an official event in Obuasi.
A statement from the Presidency, dated August 7, said the temporary appointments are to ensure that government work continues smoothly despite the loss.
The announcement was made by the Spokesperson to the President and Minister for Government Communications, Felix Kwakye Ofosu.
