Newly sworn-in Minister for Local Government, Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs, Mahama Ayariga, has assured President John Dramani Mahama that he and the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Dr Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, will work diligently to deliver on the government’s commitments to Ghanaians.
Mr Ayariga gave the assurance on Saturday, August 29, 2026, at the Jubilee House during the swearing-in ceremony of the two ministers.
The ceremony formally marked the beginning of their tenure after Parliament unanimously approved their nominations following their vetting by the Appointments Committee on Thursday, August 27.
Speaking after President Mahama administered the constitutional oaths, Mr Ayariga said the two ministers had carefully listened to the President’s expectations and understood the responsibility that came with their appointments.
He assured President Mahama that they would follow his directives and work towards delivering on the commitments made to Ghanaians during the 2024 election campaign.
“I want to assure you that we have listened carefully to your indication as to exactly what you expect of us as ministers of state and how you expect us to execute the assignment. I want to assure you that we will do exactly that.”
Mr Ayariga said their work would be guided by the government’s promise to reset the country, as outlined during the 2024 election campaign.
“We will work to realise the commitments that you made to Ghanaians in your promise to reset the country when you campaigned in 2024.”
He further said the leadership style of President Mahama, particularly his approach to relating to ordinary Ghanaians, would guide how the two ministers conduct themselves in office.
Mr Ayariga also pledged to continue taking direction from President Mahama and the Vice President in the discharge of their responsibilities.
“Your style of governance and your style of relating to the ordinary Ghanaian are going to be our guiding post as to how we conduct ourselves.”
He added that the two ministers were prepared to work within the expectations of the administration and contribute to the fulfilment of its mandate to the Ghanaian people.
