Former Vice President and flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has pledged to rebuild the economy of La Pleasure Beach following the demolition of structures at the popular Accra beach.
In a statement issued on Saturday, October 3, 2026, Dr Bawumia described La Beach as an important social, economic and cultural hub that provides livelihoods for thousands of people, particularly the youth.
He said the demolition was “sad” and expressed concern that some movable assets belonging to businesses were destroyed.
Dr Bawumia pledged that, under an NPP government, his administration would rebuild the beach economy and issue leases to businesses operating there. He also said the area would be redesigned to meet required standards while supporting existing operators to comply with the law.
He further promised to facilitate the coexistence of larger establishments, including Labadi Beach Hotel, with smaller businesses that form part of the beach’s commercial ecosystem.
According to Bawumia, his administration would also engage the owners of Laboma Beach to resolve outstanding issues and work on flooding and environmental challenges around the lagoon.
He said his commitment was to protect and improve the thousands of jobs supported by the beach economy.
