Vice President and 2024 Flagbearer for the New Patriotic Party, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia has pleaded with the National Executive Council of the party to give him an extended time for the consultation process that will lead him to select a running mate.

It has been over a month since his election as the 2024 Flagbearer for the governing New Patriotic Party and the Vice President has not submitted to the hierarchy of the Party his preferred choice for a running mate.

The National Executive Committee and National Council of the party met in a crunch meeting on December 6, 2023, to finalize by the constitution who becomes the running mate for Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia but was met with a plea for an extension of time.

Notable names within the rank and file of the party have been tipped to be chosen by the Vice President as the running mate to help them achieve their historic Eight breaking plan.

The Energy Minister, Dr. Matthew Opoku Prempeh, the Education Minister, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, and the Minister for Parliamentary Affairs and Majority Leader of Parliament, Osei Kyei Mensah Bonsu are among the leading names tipped to pad the NPP Flagbearer into the 2024 election.

In a response to the plea for extension, the General Secretary of the Party, Justin Kodua Frimpong mentioned that the National Council Unanimously accepted the plea and has given an extension to Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia.
