Delays in appointing MMDCEs is recipe for misappropriation of funds- Former Minister

Delay in the appointment of MMDCEs by President Akufo-Addo to the District Assemblies has been interpreted by many as an attempt to downplay the essential role of the Local governance system.

Former Western Regional Minister in the erstwhile Mills-Mahama administration, Paul Evans Aidoo, told GBC’s Correspondent at Sefwi Wiawso, in the Western North Region, that the delay is stalling development across the country.

He wondered how such a delay could occur, considering the highly experienced technocrats working for the President.

According to Mr. Aidoo, the current situation where Acting MMDCEs attend official functions as though in substantive positions, is unconstitutional.

He said the absence of substantive MMDCEs is a recipe for misappropriation of funds at the Assemblies.
