The District Level Elections (DLEs) started smoothly in all polling stations amidst low turn-out in the Bolgatanga Central Constituency and Bolga East District in the Upper East Region.
When GBC’S Radio Ghana took a triangular visit, some of the polling stations, the Presiding Officers indicated that voting begun about 0700 hours and so far everything was moving on smoothly.
At the Regional House of Chiefs of the Bukere Electoral Area where 633 voters are expected to cast their votes, the observed that the Electoral Officers were sitting ideal and there was no single voter to cast their votes.
At the Junior Staff Quarters polling station of the Tanzui Electoral Area where three people were contesting for the Assembly Member position, about 35 people had already cast their votes, however there was no queue at the time.
The Presiding Officer Mr. William Akuriba, explained that 679 voters are expected to cast their votes for three candidates in the Assembly Member elections, however, there is no election of Unit Committee members as those vying for the slots are only two.
Mr. Elvis Apam, the Presiding Officer indicated three people were contesting for the position of the Assembly Member slot while nine people were also vying for the positions of the Unit Committee positions.
Bukere Electoral Area
At the Bukere Primary School polling station ‘A’ of the Bukere Electoral Area, it was noticed that there were lots of people in the queue to cast their votes, however, the same could not be said about Bukere Primary ‘B’ of the same Electoral Area as there was nobody in the queue.
Bolgatanga East District
At the Bolgatanga East District, except the Gambibgo Primary A1, A2, and B a cluster polling stations that had a mixed-up of voting material according to the Presiding Officer Jonas Yimbil that took some time in sorting, which led to the starting of voting around 07:31, 07:40 and 07:38 respectively, the turn out as at 08:40 and 09:00 was great.
The A1 polling station had a total registered voter of 731 and as at 09:05, 48 had voted.
That of the Gambibgo JHS and Gambibgo/Pulugu polling stations, voting started at 07: 00 and was generally peaceful.
Bongo Constituency
The story was not different in the Bongo Constituency. At the Akaldone polling station of the Balungu Electoral Area where three people are contesting for the position of Assembly Member and six people are vying for the Unit Committee slots. 526 voters are expected to cast their votes.
The Presiding Officer, Michael Azure, indicated that the exercise was running smoothly and voters were trooping in to cast their votes.
