The Electoral Commission (EC) has announced a rerun of the parliamentary election at the Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 polling station in the Dome Kwabenya constituency.

This decision follows discrepancies discovered during the collation of results from 367 polling stations, with three results raising concerns.

Dr. Serebour Quaicoe, Director of Training at the EC, explained that one of the three results was rejected because an incorrect statement of poll was used during its declaration. Despite adding the two valid results, the margin between the two leading candidates stood at just 165 votes, while the rejected result involved 669 voters.

Dr. Quaicoe stated that if all the 669 votes went to the trailing candidate, they would surpass the current leader. This scenario has made a rerun necessary to ensure a fair outcome.

He confirmed that the EC would soon decide on a date for the rerun, assuring that it would happen before the parliamentary inauguration.

Earlier, Elikplim Akurugu of the NDC was declared the winner, flipping a seat previously considered safe for the NPP. However, the victory was overshadowed by claims of irregularities and tampering with election sheets.

The rerun at Abokobi Women’s Development Centre 2 is expected to determine the final outcome of the closely contested Dome Kwabenya parliamentary race.
