The Electoral Commission (EC) is engaging the leaderships of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) on the issue of media accreditation to Collation Centres.

A statement issued by Mr. Samuel Tettey, Deputy Chairman, Operations, EC, copied to the Ghana News Agency said since the memo directing the Commission’s staff at the District and Regional levels, to select media houses for accreditation to its Collation Centres was made public, the Commission had received numerous calls from a number of its media partners expressing concern about the quotas granted to media houses.

“As a listening Commission we are engaging with the leadership of the Ghana Journalists Association (GJA) and the Ghana Independent Broadcasters Association (GIBA) on the issue and trust that we will arrive at an arrangement that is both workable and acceptable,” the statement said.

It noted that the Commission was keen on ensuring the highest level of transparency in its operations, hence the opening up of all its Constituency, Regional and National Collation Centres to the media.

It said in doing so, the Commission was mindful of the need to ensure an orderly and peaceful process at all the Collation Centres hence the quotas on the number of persons who can access the Collation Centres at any given time.

It said the Commission was confident that its engagement with the leadership of the GJA and GIBA would lead to acceptable outcomes.
