The leadership of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and Ghana’s electoral management body, the Electoral Commission (EC), will be meeting today to consider the roadmap for the supervision of the upcoming presidential and parliamentary elections scheduled for May 13, 2023.

The EC announced it couldn’t go ahead to supervise the planned NDC internal elections due to a court injunction against the conduct of the presidential election by Dr. Kwabena Duffuor, one of the three presidential aspirants.

But the EC, according to sources, will have no choice but to supervise the NDC Parliamentary and Presidential primaries after flagbearer hopeful Dr. Kwabena Duffuor withdrew his suit against the party.

The source hinted that the operational team of the commission will meet with the leadership of the NDC on how to distribute logistics for the purpose of the election.

Meanwhile, the Director of Legal Affairs of the NDC, Mr. Abraham Amaliba, told journalists immediately after the announcement of the discontinuation of the injunction suit by Dr. Duffuor’s lawyers that transport arrangements have been made to make sure transport logistics do not affect the elections.

Dr. Duffuor, in his writ, raised concerns about supposed discrepancies in the party’s electoral roll, among others, thus warranting his action.

But on Friday, May 12, 2023, the former Finance Minister withdrew his suit to resolve the issues internally. The court subsequently struck out the case.

Again, the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has assured that the party will do everything possible to ensure that all electoral materials are distributed on time for the elections.

“We will make sure every assistance is provided for the materials to reach their destination in due time,” Mr. Kwetey added.

The NDC is now expected to proceed with its primaries to elect a flagbearer and parliamentary candidates on Saturday, May 13, ahead of the 2024 elections.
