Tuesday, December 4 is the deadline for NDC Presidential aspirants to pick their nomination forms. However, some of the aspirants have described the process so far as unconstitutional, and therefore are unable to go along with the guidelines issued by the National Executive Committee (NEC), of the party.
Eight of the aspirants have already petitioned the Council of Elders to look into their concerns.
One of the concerned aspirants, Ekow Spio-Garbrah told GBC’s Radio Ghana, that according to the party’s constitution, the National Executive Committee ought to have consulted the Council of Elders before coming out with the guidelines, including dates for picking and submission of nomination forms as well as the filling fee.
Mr. Spio-Garbrah said it will be important for all National Executive Officers who have openly endorsed any of the aspirants to step aside.
Meanwhile, the Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Alban S.K. Bagbin has picked nomination forms to contest the upcoming presidential primary of the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
This brings to five the total number of aspirants who have picked nomination forms.
They are John Dramani Mahama, Prof Joshua Alabi, Sylvester Mensah, Stephen Atubiga and Alban S.K. Bagbin.
Earlier, Professor Josua Alarbi picked his nomination form to contest the presidential primary of the NDC.
The campaign team led by former MP for South Tongu, Ken Dzirasah picked the form on behalf of Prof. Alabi at the party headquarters.
Mr Dzirasah raised concerns about some National Executives openly declaring support for some candidates and asked the National Executive Committee to call such persons to order.
The General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketsiah welcomed their concerns and pledged that the executives will take steps to address them.
