Ghana and Mali have agreed to resume discussions on the stalled Joint Technical Cooperation Framework, which was initiated in 2012 to enhance trade, economic collaboration, and diplomatic engagement between the two nations.

During his visit to Bamako, President John Dramani Mahama stressed the need to revive this mechanism to address trade bottlenecks, improve transit trade operations, and strengthen bilateral relations. He noted that rekindling this framework would provide both countries with a structured platform to resolve issues related to trade facilitation, investment, and regional cooperation.

President Mahama, who is on a three-nation West African tour, was warmly received in Mali by Transitional Leader Assimi Goïta. Their discussions reaffirmed the long-standing ties between Ghana and Mali, highlighting shared interests in regional trade, security, and cultural exchanges.

Ghana has historically played a key role in facilitating Malian trade through its ports and transportation networks, while both countries have cooperated within regional bodies such as ECOWAS and the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA).

The resumption of technical cooperation is expected to deepen economic integration and enhance the movement of goods and services between the two nations.
