Guinea Coup: President Akufo-Addo convenes virtual emergency meeting of ECOWAS Heads

President Akufo-Addo who is Chairperson of the Economic Community of West African States, ECOWAS, has convened a virtual emergency meeting of ECOWAS Heads of State and Governments to find ways of returning Guinea to democratic rule.

The Military in Guinea staged a coup which toppled President Alpha Conde who was serving a third term in government.

The junta has since suspended the constitution and promised to return the country to constitutional rule in the shortest possible time.

Speaking to the media at the Jubilee House in Accra, Director of Communications, Eugene Arhin said the President believes changing government should be done democratically and not by any force.

Meanwhile, the Prime Minister of Ethiopia, Abiy Ahmed is in Ghana for a three day state visit to deepen relations between Accra and Addis Ababa.
