The Inspector General of Police (IGP), Christian Tetteh Yohunu, has stated that the minimum number of police personnel to be stationed at all polling stations on the day of the NPP Presidential Primaries will be 70.
According to him, all arrangements have been completed, and personnel are ready for deployment across the country, with special attention on Bawku, where military support may be required. These measures, he said, are part of broader efforts to ensure safety and stability during the upcoming operations.
Speaking at the peace pact signing by the five NPP aspirants—Kennedy Agyapong, Dr. Bryan Acheampong, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, Dr. Yaw Adutwum, and Ing. Kofi Agyepong—on Thursday, January 22, 2026, the IGP added that a formal request has been submitted to the Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed Mubarak, to inform the acting Minister of Defence, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, to facilitate the deployment of military personnel to support police operations in Bawku during the elections. The move is aimed at ensuring adequate security in the area.
In other parts of the country, the military will remain on standby to provide support if needed, while the police will lead security operations on the ground.
The NPP Presidential Primaries are scheduled to take place on January 31, 2026.
