President John Dramani Mahama has announced posthumous promotions for the three military officers who tragically lost their lives in the August 6th helicopter crash.

He said the decision reflects the nation’s profound respect and recognition of their commitment, professionalism, and ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty.

“Promotions in our Armed Forces are not given lightly and posthumous promotions are the highest mark of respect for duty performed even unto death. These are not just symbolic gestures but represent the rightful place these officers have earned in our Republic’s Roll of Honour,” he noted.

The officers promoted are:
• Squadron Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, who has been elevated to the rank of Wing Commander
• Flying Officer Manaen Twum Ampadu, promoted to Flight Lieutenant
• Sergeant Ernest Addo, posthumously elevated to the rank of Flight Sergeant

President Mahama added that the Chief of Defence Staff will supervise the ceremonial presentation of the new ranks and insignia to the bereaved families.

He further disclosed that the other five (5) colleague civilian victims of the crash will also be honoured posthumously at the next National Honours & Awards ceremony.

In addition, the Government has decided to establish a Children’s Support Fund in memory of all those lost. The fund will be dedicated to supporting the surviving dependents particularly the children of both the military and civilian victims, ensuring their welfare and educational needs are protected into the future.

President Mahama reaffirmed that these measures reflect the nation’s enduring gratitude, stating: “Their sacrifice will never be forgotten, and we will stand with their families not only in grief, but in support.”
