Ghana’s 1992 Constitution has it that Presidential Elections should be held every four years, with a hand over of power by January 7 the next year. This means that Ghana is due for Presidential and Parliamentary Elections on December 7 this year.

However, some school of thought are of the view that the elections should be moved to 2021 in view of the coronavirus pandemic. But, Peace Ambassador, Alhaji Irbad Ibrahim cautions that it will be preposterous for Ghana to ride on the back of Covid-19 to postpone the December 7 polls.

The Peace Ambassador who spoke with Rebecca Ekpe urged elections making institutions to gird their loins in preparation, because postponing the elections could open up an avenue for potential instability.

Speaking further on the voters register, Alhaji Irbad Ibrahim said elections thrive on fairness and credibility, and it will be in the best interest of the Electoral Commission and the political parties to build consensus on the voters register ahead of the polls.
