In a dramatic and significant shifting of the party’s highest executive guard, former General Secretary John Boadu has swept to victory to become the new National Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), crowning a high-stakes weekend of intense internal polls.
The monumental national delegates conference turned the historic Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi, Ashanti Region, into a vibrant political theater. Spanning from Saturday, October 3, and stretching deep into the early hours of Sunday, October 4, 2026, the congress drew thousands of delegates to choose the leaders who will steer the elephant fraternity into the future.

John Boadu Secures the Chairmanship
John Boadu’s decisive ascent to the National Chairmanship marks a powerful return to the apex of the party’s leadership structure. He successfully navigated a fiercely competitive field of heavyweights, securing nearly 50 percent of the total votes cast at the Baba Yara stadium to claim the chairmanship.

Kodua Defends General Secretary Office
While the chairmanship saw a new commander take the helm, continuity triumphed in the administrative wing. Incumbent General Secretary Lawyer Justin Frimpong Kodua (“JFK”) decisively defended his seat, pulling a commanding 4,486 votes to ward off a competitive field that included Sylvester Tetteh, Eugene Boakye Antwi, and Dr. Charles Dwamena.
Kodua’s resounding win is viewed by political analysts as a vote of confidence in his steady administrative capability and deep grassroots connection.

Broad Leadership Triumphs Across the Board
The Kumasi congress also reshaped several other key portfolios, setting a fresh tone for the party’s national executive team:
National Nasara Organiser: Mohammed Ali Suraj emerged victorious after being declared by the Electoral Commission with 372 votes, prevailing over a competitive field that included Awal Mohammed and Saalim Mansuru Bamba.
Vice Chairperson: Out of a crowded field of 13 aspirants, three secured the mandate: Kojo Fosu Boadu(secured 3,116votes), Henry Nana Boakye (Nana B secured 3,061votes), and Nana Akomea(secured 2,987votes).
National Treasurer: Alfred Kojo Thompson emerged victorious in the financial portfolio, prevailing over fellow contenders Ahmed Ruka Saida, Tahiru Moomen, and Collins Nuntwiri Nuamah.
National Organiser: Daniel Nii Kwartei Titus-Glover clinched victory in this category with 2,965 votes, outperforming other contenders including Ali Maiga Halidu and Kwame Amo Prempeh.
National Women’s Organiser: Mavis Hawa Koomson clinched a major victory in her category, overcoming strong competition from Safia Mohammed.
National Youth Organiser: Abanga Fuseini Yakubu emerged victorious after polling 1,550 votes to lead the party’s youth wing, defeating rivals like Clement Opoku Gyamfi and Michael Osei Boateng.
National Communications Director: Dennis Edward Miracles Aboagye secured the communications portfolio after being elected to steer the party’s public messaging. He contested unopposed.
As the euphoria at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium subsides, the newly elected leadership—anchored by National Chairman John Boadu and General Secretary Justin Frimpong Kodua—faces the collective task of unifying and re-energizing the base for upcoming political horizons.
