John Gyapong defeats Dzifa Ativor to retain position as NDC Volta Chair

The Volta Regional Chairman of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Kwadzo Gyapong has retained his position after defeating a former Minister of Transport, Dzifa Ativor in a keenly contested regional elections. Mr. Gyapong polled 491 out of 884 votes leaving Mrs. Atsivor with 374 votes.

The regional delegates conference saw two incumbent regional executives namely, Regional Secretary, Simon Amegashie Viglo and Regional Organiser, George Dake losing their positions to a former DCE for Akatsi North, James Gunu and Abibu Siki respectively.

The elections for the Regional Women’s Organiser and Regional Youth Organiser positions which was held earlier, last Friday saw a former DCE for North Tongu, Fafa Agbai being elected to lead the women group of the Party in the region and the Deputy Youth Organiser, Mathias Alagbo defeating the incumbent Youth Organiser, Egypt Kudoto.

In his victory speech, the Regional Chairman elect, John Kwadzo Gyapong urged both winners and candidates who lost the elections to bury their differences to work together towards winning the 2020 general elections. He pledged to mobilise the rank and file of the Party in the region to embark on a vigorous campaign  towards the victory.

The regional delegates congress which was held in a peaceful atmosphere was attended by several notable personalities of the NDC, including National Organiser, Kofi Adams, National Deputy Secretary, Koku Anyidoho, a former Minister for Interior and Chief of Staff, Prosper Bani and Chairman of the Regional Council of Elders, Commodore Steve Obimpeh. In attendance were the 24 Members of Parliament in  the region.
