Flag bearer of the NDC and former President, John Dramani Mahama has reiterated his promise to grant an additional public holiday to the Muslims after Ramadan.
He said Ramadan takes a toll on Muslims and the additional holiday will give them a rest and enable them to regain their strength and contribute productively to the development of the country.
The NDC flag bearer reiterated this when he commiserated with the National Chief Imam, Sheikh Osman Nuhu Sharabutu at his residence in Fadama.
Speaking in Hausa, Mr. Mahama assured Muslims this promise will be incorporated into the NDC’s manifesto for the 2024 general election and will be passed into law in 2025 when he becomes President.
Former Minority Leader and MP for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu, said the NDC is credited with first making Ramadan and Eid-ul-Fitr celebrations public holidays in Ghana.
He urged the Muslim community to trust the NDC flag bearer to fulfil his additional holiday promise.
Mr. Iddrisu said apart from Mr. Mahama commiserating with the National Chief Imam, he also wants his blessing as he is campaigning to lead the country by winning the 2024 presidential election.

He said even when he was not in the country during the Janaza for the late Hajia Ramatu Sharabutu, he was well represented by a delegation led by the MP for Bawku Central, Mahama Ayariga.
