Finance Minister attends World Bank/IMF Meeting in Washington to press on with negotiations

Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.

The Minister of Finance, Ken Ofori-Atta, is hopeful of an International Monetary Fund (IMF), Board approval for a programme for the country by the close of next month.

He said the country has made significant progress, and there is the need to get the Board’s approval as soon as possible. Addressing Eurobond holders at an Investors Presentation Forum in Washington, Mr. Ofori-Atta urged external creditors to support Ghana’s quest in securing the programme.

Mr. Ofori-Atta said access to the international capital market is key to restoring macroeconomic stability. He maintained that the government will ensure fair debt treatment with its commercial creditors.

”We do at this time expect an IMF board approval in May [2023] and contemplate a rapid negotiation of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with our creditors. We have made significant efforts on all fronts. We hope we can reach an agreement in principle with our Eurobond holders quickly,” the Minister noted.
