Cabinet has mandated Minister of Lands and Natural Resources, Kwaku Asomah Cheremeh to take custody of all mining and related issues including all seized Excavators in line with the law and mandate of the Ministry.

The Minister will therefore assume the position of Chairman of the Interministerial Committee on Illegal Mining.

The Head of Public Relations at the Ministry, Abraham Otabil, confirmed this to GBC’s Radio Ghana.

The Interministerial Committee on Illegal Mining was formed to support the anti-galamsey fight which led to the seizures of a number of mining equipment including excavators.

However, a few months ago, the then chairman of the Committee, Prof Frimpong Boateng announced that most of the seized excavators from illegal miners had vanished.

Six persons including some NPP members were later arrested in connection with the missing excavators.
