Former President Mahama’s push for reforms in Ghana’s Judiciary described as mere ”political talk”

Former President Mahama

Former President John Dramani Mahama has stressed the need for judicial reforms to restore absolute trust and confidence in the country’s justice delivery system.

Mr. Mahama noted that the reforms are necessary due to the diminishing public trust in the Judiciary which must be the backbone of democracy and the rule of law in the country.

In a virtual address to close the 3rd Lawyers Conference, organised by the National Democratic Congress Lawyers’ Association at Akosombo in the Eastern Region last Saturday, Mr. Mahama said the reforms must not be imposed by the Executive arm of the government but with the collaboration of the Judiciary.

Agyarko Oduro on Mahama

Governance Analyst, Frederick Agyarko Oduro, says former President Mahama’s latest comments on the judiciary are mere political talk that attacks the judiciary.

Though he acknowledges the challenges of the judicial system that cast doubt on its credibility, the judiciary has worked in favour of Ghanaians and not on political lines.

Mr. Agyarko Oduro added that the Judicial Council must begin to work immediately to restore confidence and prioritise the training of its staff.
