The presidential candidate of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama, has defended the selection of Prof Jane Naana Opoku Agyemang as the Party’s Vice Presidential Candidate for the 2020 elections describing her as a “distinguished scholar” who is “respected internationally”.

Reacting to critics after the candidature of Prof Opoku-Agyeman was announced, John Mahama said the NDC has shown its willingness to let women take their place and be part of decision-making.

“We’ve shown that we’re willing to let women take their place & be part of decision-making at the highest level. For those who’ve said the time is not right, the question is when will it be right to let women take the highest office of the land? The time is now!”

Former President Mahama made these remarks in a tweet on Wednesday, July 8.

He also thanked NDC Executives for their massive support.
