The Minister of Works and Housing Samuel Atta- Akyea has called for the harmonisation of all local content policies into a parent Act to guide participation in sectors of the economy.
He said a situation where every sector has a separate policy on local content does not help investors.
Mr. Atta-Akyea was speaking at a forum which discussed a study conducted by IMANI Center for Policy and Education and commissioned by BUSAC FUND dubbed, “Is Ghana ready for more local content: Lessons from eight comparative countries in five economic sectors”.
The Minister urged Ghanaian companies to build capacity to fully take advantage of opportunities that come with investment.
A Deputy Minister of Energy, Dr. Amin Adam observed that training is very essential if Ghanaians are to take up jobs in the oil and gas industry.
He encouraged companies to employ Ghanaians and train them.
The Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Chamber of Mines, Sulemana Konney advocated the need for the state to assist in the setting up of industries that can produce inputs for mining companies to stop importation of such products.
This will help create jobs and cut down on the cost of mining.
An Economist with University of Ghana, Professor Godfred Bokpin advised foreign investors not to see local content policies as constraints but, as business opportunity.
