The Minority in Parliament has refused to partake in the ongoing debate on the 2020 State of the Nation Address.

Information Minister and Member of Parliament for Ofoase/Ayirebe, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah moved for the motion highlighting major aspects of the address in education, the economy, health, agriculture among others.

In response, the Minority Chief Whip, Muntaka Mubarak declared the stand of the major opposition saying they were not going to participate in the debate before the House even though the Minority MPs are present.

“We would like to abstain,” the Minority Chief Whip said this when the Speaker of the House called on their side to support the motion moved by the Information Minister.

This comes after the Minority refused to witness President Akufo-Addo’s Address to the nation on Thursday, 20th February 2020.

Members of the caucus, clad in black and led by Member of Parliament for Tamale South, Haruna Iddrisu chanted parts of the national anthem as they walked out of the chamber.

They took the action shortly after President Akufo-Addo was welcomed by the Speaker of the House and assumed his seat.
