The Minority in Parliament has threatened to reject the upcoming Budget Statement and Economic Policy of the Government for the 2024 Financial Year if the budget fails to address important needs, which are topical nowadays.

According to them, “budget statement will encounter resistance if it does not prioritise the needs of people and businesses. That is our bottom line.

The prevailing economic conditions have already made it difficult for ordinary Ghanaians and businesses. Therefore, we can’t be a party to any policy or measure which makes things even more unbearable for the already suffering Ghanaians and businesses.”

Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, said in a statement to welcome his colleagues of Parliament back to the third meeting of the third session of the eighth Parliament of the Fourth Republic, on Tuesday, November 31, 2023.

He asserted: “So, if the government knows that its upcoming budget does not prioritise the needs of the people, then they should get ready for a SHOWDOWN!”

“As a Minority Caucus, we have not forgotten the cry of the people of Ghana; we have held the government accountable and exposed its sins, and we want to assure the people of Ghana that we will continue to do so.”

He said they, as MPs, are tired of seeing many young professionals leave the shores in droves because they find no opportunities in our dear country due to the harsh economic conditions, poor governance, and corruption.

“Speaker, the position taken by the Minority Caucus is not intended to frustrate the government; far from that. We have taken the position to be on the side of the people of Ghana, as we have done in the life of this Parliament.

Speaker, let me seize the opportunity to touch on a subject matter that gives us, as members of the Minority Caucus, sleepless nights,” he noted.
