The Minority Chief Whip in Ghana’s Parliament, Frank Annor-Dompreh, has announced that the Minority in Parliament will not participate in the presentation of the 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review.

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) Minority Caucus staged the walkout ahead of the Finance Minister’s address, citing concerns over recent incidents of electoral violence.

The Minority pointed specifically to the Ablekuma North election re-run distrubance, describing it as a clear example of the growing threat to Ghana’s democratic process.

According to the Minority, their action is a protest against what they view as government inaction and indifference toward ensuring peaceful, credible elections.

Despite the absence of the Minority Caucus, the Finance Minister, Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, is on the floor of Parlaiment delivering his 2025 mid-year budget review and stressing that “Ghana is back on the international scene” as a result of prudent economic measures undertaken by the government.

Prior to the Finance Minister’s address, the Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh-Dompreh rose to make a statement on the floor, which culminated in the Minority bench vacating the chamber in protest.
