The High Court in Accra has ordered the freezing of five bank accounts and four landed properties belonging to former Executive Secretary of the Inter-Ministerial Coordinating Committee on Decentralisation (IMCCoD), Dennis Edward Aboagye, popularly known as Dennis Miracles Aboagye.
The order follows an application by the Economic and Organised Crime Office (EOCO) as part of its ongoing investigation into the alleged misappropriation of about GH¢55 million at the IMCCoD.
EOCO is investigating suspected fraud, theft and procurement-related irregularities during Mr. Aboagye’s tenure as Executive Secretary of the committee.
The court’s decision comes weeks after Mr. Aboagye was arrested at the Kotoka International Airport on July 12 after returning to Ghana. He was picked up by immigration officers and handed over to EOCO for questioning before he was later released.
According to EOCO, the arrest followed significant new findings uncovered during its investigations. The agency said Mr. Aboagye had been aware of the investigation and had previously honoured invitations to assist with inquiries. However, a stop order had been placed on him to prevent any travel that could affect the ongoing investigations.
EOCO says the investigation forms part of a broader probe into alleged financial irregularities at the IMCCoD.
The agency has also confirmed the arrest of the committee’s former accountant, Gerald Appiah, as investigations into the alleged loss of public funds continue.
