The Upper East Regional Communication Secretariat of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has debunked claims by the National Democratic Congress (NDC), that the Ministry for Inner-City and Zongo Development is constructing a Multipurpose Sports Centre in the region, valued at $250,000.

According to the NPP, the actual amount for the construction of the project, is GH¢ 499,500.

On the 5th of November, the NDC Upper East Regional Communication Secretariat organized a news conference and called on the BNI and EOCO, to join the Office of the Special Prosecutor to probe the two government appointees including former Minister for Inner-City and Zongo Development, Alhaji Boniface Abubakar Saddique, and the Municipal Chief Executive for Bolgatanga, Joseph Amiyuure for causing financial loss to the state.

The NDC at the news conference revealed that the Zongo Ministry has blown an amount of GH¢1, 250, 000 over the construction of what was meant to be an Astro-turf sports complex in Bolgatanga, but which ended up being a green-grass park not worth the said contract sum.

The NDC said the taxpayer has been shortchanged as there is no value for the whooping amount reportedly disbursed to execute that project.

Setting the records straight, the NPP said the scope of work in the contract involves re-vegetation, fencing, reserve player seats, goal post and flood lights.

The NPP denied allegations by the NDC that the ongoing Multipurpose sports center in the region is an Astro-turf, but not a green grass park. It said the ongoing construction of a multipurpose sports centre in Navrongo is being constructed by the Youth and Sports Ministry, and not the Inner-City and Zongo Development Ministry.

The Secretariat emphasized that just like the Bolgatanga Multipurpose sports centre, the Inner-City and the Zongo Development Ministry is constructing a similar one Salaga, Yeji, Tafo and Oda.
