The National Democratic Congress (NDC), has called on President Nana Akufo-Addo to prosecute members of his government and NPP members involved in Galamsey if he wants Ghanaians to take him seriously.

According to the party, this will be the first step to redemption.

Addressing the media at the party’s headquarters in Accra, the National Communication Officer of the Party, Sammy Gyamfi, admonished the President to “send a clear signal to Ghanaians that anyone caught in galamsey will be dealt with without fear or favour, regardless of party colours”.

The NDC said all security personnel complicit in illegal mining activities should be made to face internal investigations and discharged from the various services to serve as a deterrent to others.

“Mr. President, until you undertake the above actions faithfully, your so-called renewed fight against “galamsey” will remain a mirage,  Sammy Gyamfi stated on Thursday, October 6, 2022.

Mr. Gyamfi, however, noted that the NDC is not against mining in principle, but “what we are against is illegal mining, particularly mining in water bodies and irresponsible mining that destroys the environment without any reclamation,” he added.
