The first delegate cast his vote at 9:47am this morning to officially commence the NDC parliamentary primaries at the Aliu Mahama Sports Stadium in Tamale. The primary has become necessary following the death of the late MP, Dr Muhammed Murtala, last month.
About 1,551 delegates are expected to cast their ballots across four polling stations designated for the election. To facilitate the process, three voting booths have been set up at each polling station.

Deputy National Communications, Gordon Ako Gunn
Before voting began, Deputy National Communications Officer of the NDC, Gordon Ako Gunn, urged delegates to ensure a peaceful process. He encouraged them to look beyond today’s primaries and focus on the bigger picture for the party. Mr Ako Gunn stressed that the success of the exercise was critical, noting that “a win in today’s election is a win for the party.” He also advised that any candidate who emerges victorious should exercise humility and avoid acts of intimidation.

The Electoral Commission also called on delegates to abide by all electoral rules and guidelines.
Security at the venue is tight, with about 400 personnel deployed to maintain peace and order.
