NDC sues Electoral Commission over decision to reopen voters’ register

We're NOT carrying out any recruitment exercise- EC

Jean Mensah is the Chairperson of the EC.

The National Democratic Commission (EC) has sued the Electoral Commission (EC), over its decision to re-open the Voters’ Register.

According to the Party, it took the decision because the Commission has not published in the gazette , the 21 days’ Notice of the planned exercise in accordance with the law governing elections in Ghana.

The NDC said the EC has acted beyond its powers in an attempt to reopen the voter’s register, a second time for those who could not register.

The EC has scheduled tomorrow for a Second Round of Registration for   groups of people who are yet to get registered, to do so.

They include voters who were outside the country due to COVID-19 restrictions, those who were under a 14-day mandatory quarantine and could not take part in the Mass Voter Registration, and eligible voters who were duly issued voter ID cards, but whose names are missing from the register under exhibition.

The NDC wants the Court to place an injunction on the EC restraining it from re-opening the Voters Register without first gazetting it.
