The NDC has retained the contentious Sene West Parliamentary seat with a difference of 16 votes.
The NDC Candidate for Sene West, Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi was yesterday declared winner of the December 7 Parliamentary election.
He polled 13,116 votes, while the NPP’s, Joseph Kumah Mackay obtained 13,100 in the hotly contested election. The total votes cast were 27,067 with 26,407 as the valid votes. This comes after the contents of the ballot boxes were counted.
The election in the constituency was placed under injunction after the NPP candidate felt aggrieved with the counting process.
The results bring the current numbers in Parliament to 137 for the NDC and 137 for the NPP with 1 Independent candidate who has opted to sit with the NPP in the chamber.
Meanwhile, the NDC and the NPP have expressed satisfaction with the Wenchi Court’s decision, describing it as transparent.
The counting was supervised by EC Officials, in the presence of the General Secretary of the NDC, Johnson Asiedu Nketia, and the Minister for Regional Reorganization Dan Kwaku Botwe of the NPP among others.
The MP-elect for Sene West, Kwame Ampofo-Twumasi pledged his commitment to resolving outstanding issues between the two major political parties within the constituency to achieve the needed development.
