The Electoral Commission (EC)  says the newly compiled voters register will be complete for the December 7 Presidential and Parliamentary Elections by the end of September.

Director of Elections at the EC, Dr. Serebour Quaicoe who disclosed this to Radio Ghana’s Rebecca Ekpe said the exhibition of the register will be held mid-September.

He however indicated that the EC may not extend the entire registration beyond Thursday, August 6, instead a two-day selective mop-up will be conducted in districts and areas where long queues were experienced.

Dr. Quaicoe said the EC has enrolled more than 14 million voters, out of their targeted 16 million, and expressed gratitude to all Ghanaians for a successful exercise.

Meanwhile, the EC has also assured the public that names of all foreigners who have managed to register will be deleted before it presents the final Voters Register.

Speaking at its “Let the Citizen Know” series in Accra, Chairperson, Jean Mensa called on  the  Security Agencies and the public to be vigilant to prevent foreigners from registering.

Deputy Chairman of the EC in Charge of Corporate Affairs, Dr. Bossman Asare cautioned the public to ensure that those they guarantee for are Ghanaians and are eligible to register.

He gave examples of some foreigners who have been arrested and prosecuted for registering.
