NPP National Council releases rules, regulations, timetable, and aspirants pick nomination forms

John Boadu pledges support to new party executives

The National Council of the New Patriotic Party, NPP, has released Rules and Regulations and Time Table for conduct of the election of its National Officers.

The National Annual Delegates Conference, which will among other things, elect National Executive Officers of the Party, is scheduled to take place at the Accra Sports Stadium from the 15th to the 17th of JULY.

A statement issued by the General Secretary, John Boadu, said the Conference is in accordance with Article 10 Clause (2) of the NPP Constitution which provides that, the Party’s National Annual Delegates Conference shall meet to elect National Officers, as well as Article 18 on Guidelines for the operations of the Party at all levels.

The Party’s National Council, at its meeting on May 12, 2022 approved Rules and Regulations for the process.

Pursuant to Section17(2) of the Political Parties Law, Act 574, which provides that the election of National, Regional and Constituency Officers of every political party be conducted under the supervision of the Electoral Commission, the National Elections shall be supervised by the Electoral Commission of Ghana.

All election-related processes shall be organized and superintended over by a 9-member National Elections Committee headed by Peter Mac Manu.

In line with Article 10(2)(3) of the Party’s Constitution, the National Annual Delegates Conference shall be attended by all Members of the National Council, National Executive Committee, Regional Executive Committees, Constituency Executive Committees among others.

The presence of at least one-third of the delegates are needed to constitute a quorum of the Conference.

The elections shall be conducted in accordance with the following schedules: Opening and closing of nominations from 8th to 12th June, Filing of Nominations from 13th to 15th June, Vetting of Aspirants from 17th to 20th June,

Release of Vetting Report on 22nd June, and Hearing of Appeals, if any from 24th to 25th June 2022.

The statement said nomination forms can be purchased by prospective Candidates or their representatives, from the National Elections Committee, at the NPP Headquarters, within working hours, after the payment of a non-refundable Nomination Fee, adding that the National Chairperson will pay GHC20,000, Vice Chairpersons, GHC15,000, General Secretary, GHC10,000, all Other Positions going for GHC8,000, with Special Wings (Youth/Women/Nasara) paying GHC6,000.

According to the statement, Nomination Fees shall be paid at the point of picking Nomination Forms and all prospective Candidates shall NOT be denied access to procure Nomination Forms.

It further stated that a Prospective Candidate shall be a registered voter and shall be required to produce his/her Biometric Voter ID Card issued by the Electoral Commission.

A Prospective Candidate shall be a known and active member of the Party in good standing for at least five (5) years.

Candidates for any of the National Officers position shall be nominated by one (1) member of the Party’s National Council and seconded by twenty (20) known and active registered members of the Party. All the seconders shall be in good standing.

Three passport-sized photographs shall accompany each Nomination Form.
