The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is today holding its national executive elections to steer the affairs of the party for the next term.
The elections, which have attracted national attention, are being held at a time when the party is seeking to reorganise and strengthen its structures following its defeat in the 2024 general elections.
Delegates from across the 16 regions have converged at the election venue at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium in Kumasi to elect new national officers who will be tasked with rebuilding the party and leading it into the 2028 general elections.
Ahead of the polls, aspirants contesting for various positions have committed to a clean and credible election devoid of inducement. “The aspirants have signed a consensus agreement not to allow any form of inducement or money sharing before or after the elections,” former Member of Parliament for Lawra, Anthony Karbo disclosed.
Speaking on GBC’s Current Agenda today, Saturday, October 3, 2026, Mr. Karbo said the agreement, signed by all aspirants, is aimed at preserving the integrity of the electoral process and ensuring that delegates vote based on competence and vision, not monetary influence.
According to him, the party leadership and aspirants agreed that any form of vote buying, whether in cash or kind, before or after the elections, will not be tolerated.
He explained that the move was necessary to restore public confidence in the party’s internal democracy and to send a strong signal that the NPP is committed to reform.
The consensus agreement, he noted, binds all aspirants and their supporters, and a monitoring mechanism has been put in place to ensure compliance.
Political analysts say today’s election is crucial for the NPP as it will determine the direction and leadership style of the party in opposition.
