Presidential hopeful of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, says he will prioritise party unity if he wins the ongoing presidential primaries, stressing that cohesion is essential ahead of the 2028 general elections.
“If I emerge victorious, I will work to bring the party together,” Mr Agyapong stated, adding that internal competitions, though often intense, must not result in lasting divisions.
Speaking to the media after casting his ballot at a polling centre in Assin Central in the Central Region, the former Member of Parliament said he was confident the process would be fair and credible.
“I don’t believe we will see a repeat of what happened in 2023. We certainly hope it doesn’t happen. All of us have worked hard to put measures in place to prevent rigging, so I am expecting a fair contest,” Mr Agyapong said.
He expressed optimism that alleged irregularities which, in his view, characterised the party’s 2023 flagbearer contest would not recur, adding that safeguards have been strengthened to protect the integrity of the current process.
He further urged party members to remain united regardless of the outcome, emphasising that disagreements and strong campaign rhetoric should not weaken the NPP’s collective strength.
Mr Agyapong also appealed to delegates to support his candidature and encouraged them to participate fully in the voting process.
The NPP presidential primary is taking place nationwide, with five candidates contesting for the party’s flagbearer position ahead of the 2028 general elections.
