The Chief Executive Officer of Ghana’s Shippers Authority Professor Ransford Gyampo, has strongly criticized the New Patriotic Party (NPP), saying they do not deserve to govern even a village unless they change their leadership and attitude.

Speaking on The Key Points show on TV3 on Saturday, May 31, 2025, the political science professor said the NPP must “repent” and bring in a new group of leaders if they want to be taken seriously by Ghanaians again.

“The NPP has been arrogant and incompetent, especially in their handling of illegal mining and power cuts,” he said. “If they don’t repent or come up with a new crop of leaders, they don’t fit to govern even a village.”

Prof. Gyampo made these comments in the wake of the NPP’s defeat in the 2024 general elections, where the party lost both the presidential and parliamentary contests to the National Democratic Congress (NDC).

Since taking office, President John Mahama-led NDC government has introduced measures to stabilize the economy and fight illegal small-scale mining, known locally as galamsey.

Prof. Gyampo’s comments add to growing public discussions about the future direction of the NPP and the leadership changes many believe are necessary for the party’s revival.
