The Ad-hoc Committee constituted to probe the veracity or otherwise of the allegations made by the Minority in Parliament per their motion of censure, against the finance minister has begun public sittings on the matter at Parliament House in Accra. The Speaker of Parliament, Mr. Alban Bagbin on Thursday, November 10, constituted an 8-member committee to probe the allegations.

The Committee, which has seven days to submit its report, comprises Mr. Samuel Okudzeto Ablakwa, Ms. Zanetor Agyeman-Rawlings, Mr. Bernard Ahiafor on the Minority side and Mr. Patrick Yaw Boamah, Kwame Anyimadu-Antwi and Andrew Agyapa Mercer from the Majority side. The Minority side in Parliament filed a motion seeking a vote of censure to be passed on Ken Ofori-Atta over the current economic crisis.

Lawyer for Finance Minister, Ken Ofori Atta, Gabby Okyere Darko says his client deserves a fair hearing in the ongoing public hearing on the motion of censure which began today. He said all documents to be tendered in as evidence during the hearing must not be kept secret by the Minority.

The Ranking Member of the Finance Committee in Parliament, Dr. Ato Forson, however, allayed the fears of Mr. Okyere Darko saying all the evidence he requires is in the public domain. These include the IMF 2018 to 2021 report on Ghana’s economy and the address on the state of the economy delivered by President Akufo Addo two weeks ago.

Sitting continues………….
