The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso East, Mohammed Baba Jamal Ahmed, has been released on self-recognisance bail after being charged by the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP).

Mr Ahmed faces charges of corruption, assault, and obstruction of OSP officers following investigations into an alleged vote-buying incident linked to the party’s parliamentary primary.

Baba Jamal, accompanied by his lawyers, appeared before the OSP on Tuesday, February 10, 2026, to respond to questions relating to the NDC primary held on February 7.

The probe follows reports that the Ayawaso East contest was allegedly marred by inducements, including the distribution of items such as television sets and boiled eggs to delegates.

The allegations have sparked public debate and raised concerns within the party.

However, Baba Jamal has denied the claims, insisting he did not engage in any form of inducement during the primary.

After being formally charged, he was granted self-recognisance bail while investigations continue.
