More than 100,000 registered voters from the media, security agencies and other institutions who will be on duty on election day are expected to vote in the special voting today.

The number is the highest recorded by the EC with regard to special voting.

Speaking at the weekly “Let the Citizen know” series in Accra, Chairperson of the Commission Mrs Jean Mensa confirmed that the number of missing names from the register has risen from 542 to more than 800, adding that a separate register will be made available for such persons.

The latest edition of the EC’s “Let the Citizen know” series sought to brief the public on its preparedness towards the Special voting and the main election on December 7.

The commission urged the public to disregard rumours that it deliberately prevented some journalists and security personnel from applying to vote in the special voting.

Chairperson of the EC, Mrs. Jean Mensa explained that the inconsistencies in the list submitted is a major reason why many of them could not be on the special register to vote ahead of December 7. She said the commission expects 100 percent turnout in the special voting.

Another topical issue was the sudden increase in the number of names missing from the register, which now stands at 830. Mrs. Mensa explains.

She said the commission has published the special voters’ register and the register for the main election on its website, adding that individuals can verify their details using the short code *711*2020# on all networks free of charge.
