Palm Sunday: Suhum NDC walks for peace, unity for power

Suhum Constituency of the larger opposition National Democratic Congress in the Eastern Region joined millions of Christians worldwide to mark this year’s Palm Sunday to promote peace among the Parliamentary Aspirants ahead of primaries.

The Health Walk organised by both the youth and the women wings themed ‘a walk with Parliamentary Aspirants: Unifying our front for victory 2024’, was also used to foster unity and comradeship now, during and before the Regional vetting to be held at Suhum slated for the first week of April 2023.

As such, hundreds of NDC supporters joined by Constituency and some of the Regional Executives clad in NDC paraphernalia used about three hours to match from the Party Office-Ampomsah Market through the township including the Accra-Kumasi Highways and converged at Accra Main Lorry Station for address from various speakers.

In his address, the Constituency Chairman, Richard Afasi noted that they have chosen “this Palm Sunday”, to showcase the unity that exists between the aspirants and the executive body” as he declared the week NDC week since Suhum is playing host for the Regional vetting.

He further charged party supporters to attend branch meetings regularly and to take NDC to the doorsteps people ahead of the 2024 general elections.

On his part, the Eastern Regional Chairman, Dr. Mark Oliva Kevor used the occasion to remind aspirants of the fact that, only one person will be declared the winner on the 13th of May but the rest of them must join him to work “for us to take this seat”.

He revealed how aspirants were made to sign bond to remain in the party and campaign, and at the end of it all, each one of them will be accordingly rewarded when the party wins power,…. “at  Koforidua meeting we recognized you as stakeholders”.

The former MCE for the area and currently, a member of the National Communications Team, Margarete Ansei Magoo promised to help the elected parliamentary candidate to undertake a “house-to-house and room-to-room”, campaign for victory. She, however, congratulated the aspirants for promoting unity at all levels.

Five persons have successfully filed to contest the ticket of the party, subject to vetting. They are Richard Yermoh, Otuo Kofi Adjei, Sammy Bruce Nyarko, Rev. James Batsa Offoe and Prince Kwadwo Addo.
