Parliament resumes to consider Presidential Transition Bill, among others

Parliament passes landmark Emissions Levy Bill before rising for Christmas

Parliament is set to commence sitting for the First Meeting of the Fourth Session of the 8th Parliament as scheduled to start on Tuesday, 6th February 2024, at 10:00 a.m.

During this meeting, a total of 82 bills are expected to be presented to the House for consideration.

The bills to be considered during the period are the Presidential Transition (Amendment) Bill, 2024; the Aged Persons Bill, 2023; the Advertising Council Bill, 2023; the Consumer Protection Bill, 2023; the Public University Bill, 2023; the Ghana Road Fund (Amendment) Bill; and the Ghana Roads Authority Bill, 2023. 

Twelve (12) other bills are currently at the committee level and are expected to be worked on during this meeting. They are Public Bills in nature which include the Affirmative Action (Gender Equality) Bill, 2023; the Social Protection Bill, 2023; the Ghana Investment Promotion Centre (Amendment) Bill 2023; and the Environmental Protection Bill, 2023.

Again, Private Members’ Bills will also be considered, which include the Office of the Special Prosecutor (Amendment) Bill, 2021 (currently before the Parliamentary Select Committee on Constitutional, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs.

The rest are the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill, 2023, before the same Committee; the Embarked Funds Capping and Realignment (Amendment) Bill, 2022, before the Finance Committee; and Constitution of the Republic of Ghana (Amendment) Bill, 2021, before the Committee on Constitutional, Legal, and Parliamentary Affairs, among others:
