Parliament commences 2nd meeting of 1st Session on 25th May, 2021

Parliament is recalled to commence public business for the Second Meeting of the First Session of the 8th Parliament tomorrow, Tuesday, 25th May, 2021 at Ten O’clock.

A statement from the Public Affairs Directorate entreated all MPs and staff of the Parliamentary service to take note and attend upon the House timeously and adhere strictly to all COVID 19 protocols.

This Second Meeting is expected to work on a number of Bills which include: Ghana Standards Authority Bill, 2021, Exemptions Bill, 2021, Consumer Protection Bill, 2021, Petroleum Revenue Management (Amendment) Bill, 2021 and Advertising Council Bill, 2021

According to the statement, “Budget Performance Report in respect of the Ministry of Youth and Sports for the period of January to December, Budget Performance in respect of the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources for the period January to December, 2020 are among the papers to be presented to the House this meeting”.

The Public Accounts Committee is also expected to hold its public hearings to examine reports from the Auditor General’s Department and other related matters.

Other Select Committees will also sit as part of Parliament’s oversight duties, as Appointments Committee of The House commence its public hearings to vet about 40 President’s nominees for Minister of State and Deputy Ministerial positions.

There are also some petitions before the House. Sector ministers are also expected to attend the House to answer questions related to their ministries.

Motions for Debates will be admitted by the Speaker during this meeting, accordingly.
