Some Members of Parliament are proposing a reduction in sitting days in a week to mitigate the impact of the ever-rising prices of fuel on them.
They now want to go to Parliament twice a week so they can cut fuel costs. The MP for Asuogyaman, Thomas Ampem Nyarko, who complained about the lack of activity in parliament, stated that lawmakers keep wasting fuel to be present in the House.
Speaking during the presentation of the business statement for this week, Mr Ampem Nyarko called on the House to consider the proposal in order to bring relief to the MPs who are struggling to fuel their vehicles.
The Majority Leader and Minister for Parliamentary Affairs, Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, however, described the proposal as apocalyptic.
According to him, the current economic crisis requires increase in productivity, and MPs are no exception.
Diesel is currently selling at ¢23.49 pesewas a litre while petrol is ¢17.99 a litre, and prices continue to escalate.
