Leadership of the NDC embarked on a March for Justice demonstration on Tuesday, July 6, in Accra to present two separate petitions to the President at the Jubilee House and Parliament.

Discussing the demonstration on GBC’s Current Affairs Programme, ‘Focus’, Governance Expert, Professor Emmanuel Asiamah said the peaceful protest is a clear indication that Ghana is indeed a democratic country that holds the tenets of democracy in high esteem.

He said for democracy to thrive, such demonstrations should be allowed to keep government in check. Prof. Asiamah said it is sad to note that people have lost trust in the security agencies.

Member of Parliament for Wa West, Peter Lanchene-Tuubo, lauded the move by the Youth Wing of the NDC in embarking on the protest to present their grievances and draw the President’s attention to the State of insecurity in the country.

A member of the NPP Communication Team, George Ayisi, said even though it is the democratic right of the NDC to demonstrate, timing of the protest was inappropriate considering Covid-19 cases and the deadly Delta variant.

On the incident in Wa, where security personnel assaulted some civilians, Mr. Ayisi said there should be thorough investigation into the issue to bring the perpetrators to book.
