A Senior Lecturer at the Political Science Department of the University of Ghana, Dr. Alidu Seidu, has cautioned government to read between the lines before signing bilateral agreements.
He said though it is good to make attempts to industrialise, government must look at the motives behind these agreements before committing to them.
Speaking on GBC’s “Uniiq Breakfast Drive” in the wake of Ghana signing eight Memoranda of Understanding with China, Dr. Alidu said it is paramount for our leaders to look at the driving interest and see if it will benefit the economy or reorient the economy to serve a neo liberal agent which will inure to the disadvantage of the country.
Dr. Alidu said leaders entering these agreements and conditions on behalf of the citizens must make sure the agreements don’t clip the wings of government.
Dr. Alidu said the benefits the country will get from China should not cloud the country’s judgement in foreign policy terms in responding to the menace that some Chinese citizens commit in the country.
